An interdisciplinary program for PhD students and early-stage post-doctoral scientists.
Air pollution and climate change are deeply intertwined, sharing common sources and solutions and both having profound impacts on human health. Understanding the air pollution–climate change–health effects nexus requires interdisciplinary knowledge from atmospheric science, climatology, and environmental health.
The ARCH summer school aims to provide PhD students and early-stage post-doctoral scientists a knowledge platform to learn about the scientific basics in these fields and to foster a new generation of scientists, policymakers, and public health experts who can think and collaborate across fields and national boundaries.
The 1st ARCH Summer School will be held from August 22 to September 5, 2026, including one lecture week in Beijing for all students and one group-activity week in Xi'An for students who will attend the 12th International Aerosol conference (IAC).
A total of 16 lectures will be provided by senior scientists from MPI, FZJ, PSI, ETH, and PKU, covering topics in atmospheric chemistry (radicals, ozone, aerosol), climate change (atmospheric dynamics, radiative forcing, aerosol-cloud interactions), health effects (epidemiology, human exposure), air quality and regional practices (observation networks and data).
Additionally, tutorials, scientific excursions, and group activities are scheduled. Detailed information will be posted on the website in July.
Applicants must send the following information (Name, Email, Affiliation, Adviser, Year of PhD Graduation) and a short CV (1-2 pages) by email to yangxiaofang/at/pku.edu.cn
before 15 April, 2026.
As the number of participants is limited to 100, a selection of applications will be made. Applicants will be notified by email before April 20, 2026.
